This may look like a few old worn out buildings in some place without much sun – and it is!
Remember when I showed you a fresco from the Capuchos convent in Sintra? Built in 1560 this convent (also known as cork convent) embodies the franciscan ideals of poverty and humility, which is why it looks poor (it was meant to be poor!) and why the doors are so small (friars had to bend to enter a room, in a constant reminder that they had to submit to a higher power).
Despite its poverty this convent is surrounded by lush green vegetation and, in its simplicity, it’s one of the most beautiful places to visit in Sintra.

I agree with you about it being one of the best places in Sintra. I went there about 6 years ago and I’d love to revisit and get better photos this time around!
I think it’s very underrated… it may not have the grandeur of a palace or castle, but it’s amazing in its own unique way. I think there’s a certain zen charm to it 😉

This is breath taking. Wish I had time to visit. I am counting the days to 6 May as I am on my way to walk part of the Portuguese way to Santiago de Compostela. Will start in Oporto.
