Well, everyday can be beach day when you have 943 km of coast line, as we do in mainland Portugal.
Yes, it can be windy, rainy and cold if it’s not Summer yet. But if the weather is playing along nicely you can just grab a few local goodies, a couple of friends or family members and head to the beach for some fresh air and a picnic.
Shown here is the beach of São Martinho do Porto, to the north of Lisbon, in the municipality of Alcobaça. How do you get to this quiet beach, which also happens to be a natural bay? Google maps always knows!

I strongly recommend the SW coast (aka Costa Vicentina; part of it is Algarve) and, if possible, go there in the Spring: in the Summer it gets reaaaaaally crowded!
